The standard applies from the harvesting of raw materials, such as certified organic cotton, wool, or other natural fibers, through environmentally responsible and socially ethical manufacturing processes. GOTS specifies strict limits on chemical inputs, including pesticides, fertilizers, and processing chemicals, while also setting requirements for water and energy use, waste management, and ecological protection during production.Moreover, GOTS requires compliance with international social standards, including fair labor practices, safe working conditions, and the prohibition of child and forced labor. The standard further covers all processing stages, including spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing, and labeling, to ensure traceability and transparency.
